Registering a jet ski that comes directly from abroad may seem like a complicated process. However, with the right information and documents at hand, the process can go smoothly. Here are the steps and required documents you need to successfully register your waterscooter.

Required Documents:

  1. Proof of Ownership: A proof of ownership and/or a typed letter in the name of the buyer, clearly showing the names and signatures of both the seller and the buyer.

  2. Customs Documents: A proof from customs, the so-called "single document (C-model)" and removal document, indicating that import duties have been paid. Customs documents must include the name of the buyer, stamp, and signature of the customs officer. If another name is mentioned other than the buyer, the buyer must provide a transfer letter, typed and signed by both parties.

  3. Valid Identification: A valid identification of both the seller and the buyer (ID card or passport) or a proof of registration from the Civil Registry, Population Register (Kranshi) not older than 6 months.

Special Procedures:

  • Not Registered in the Population Register: The owner must provide a typed letter, mentioning a representative who is registered with "Kranshi" and who remains responsible for the boat during the owner's absence. The letter must include both the phone number and address of the representative and must be signed by both parties.

  • Power of Attorney: If the owner grants someone else the power of attorney to register the boat, a power of attorney letter from the owner is required. Both parties must provide valid identification.

Registration of Legal Entities:

  • N.V. or B.V.: Required are the notarial deed of incorporation, a registration certificate from the Chamber of Commerce not older than 6 months, a valid identification of the representative, and a power of attorney letter if applicable.

  • Foundation (e.g., SPF): Required are the notarial deed of incorporation, a registration certificate from the Chamber of Commerce, a valid identification of the representative, and a power of attorney letter if applicable.

  • Sole Proprietorship: Required are a registration certificate from the Chamber of Commerce, a valid identification of the owner, and a power of attorney letter if applicable.

  • Trust: Required are the notarial trust deed of incorporation, a registration certificate from the Chamber of Commerce, a valid identification of the trustee, and a power of attorney letter if applicable.

Other Requirements:

  • Photo of the Boat: A color photo (side view) of the boat.

  • Boat Details: All relevant details such as name, type, length, width, depth, year of construction, weight, place of construction, intended use, berth, and colors of the boat.

  • Engine Details: All relevant details such as brand, number, cylinders, and fuel.

  • Owner Details: All relevant details such as surname, first names, address, phone numbers, date of birth, occupation, email, and identification.

Important Note:

Both the owner and the representative must personally sign the registration card at the harbor office/CPA. The boat will only be registered after all this information is provided.

It is important to know that the validity of the registration is five years from the date of issue. Before the expiration date, you must visit the office in Otrabanda, Motetwerf to renew your registration card. Please take into account with the timing of your visit that the office is closed during lunch time. Also request an inspection date for the jet ski immediately after you have completed the registration!

If you have purchased a Seadoo water scooter that still needs to be technically assembled and/or fully tested and prepared for the inspection by local authorities, feel free to contact Chichi Jetski Tours via WhatsApp to ask for advice on which SeaDoo technician on the Curacao can arrange the assembly and/or the pre-inspection checks and possibly also represent you during the inspection by the authorities. The local authorities on Curaçao require that a person with a local Curaçao boating license performs the maneuvers on the jet ski during the inspection. Once the inspection has been successfully completed, a temporary certificate of soundness will be issued. Approximately 2 weeks after the inspection date, you can pick up the inland navigation regulation (certificate of soundness) together with a permit to use the water scooter in Curaçao. It is important to know that the validity of the certificate of seaworthiness is 2 years for a pleasure craft and 1 year for a commercial craft.

With this information, we hope you are well-prepared to register your jet ski and ensure everything goes according to the rules. Good luck!
